Light Planner delivers point-by-point, radiosity-based lighting calculations to EN 12464-1 — a free alternative to DIALux. © 2026 Light Solutions ApS.

What Light Planner does

It’s a real point-by-point calculator, not a rule-of-thumb estimator:

  • EN 12464-1 room targets — pick the space (office, retail, warehouse, classroom, corridor…) and it loads the maintained illuminance, uniformity and glare targets for you.
  • Point-by-point illuminance with reflectance inter-reflection and a proper maintenance factor (CIE 97).
  • False-colour map, isolux contours and a value grid — see exactly where the light lands, and where it doesn’t.
  • Uniformity (U₀), average / min / max lux, cylindrical & wall illuminance, and a computed UGR.
  • Any room shape — rectangles, L/U/T shapes, or trace your own floor plan to scale.
  • LED strips as continuous runs — including a perimeter / cove mode that runs the strip all the way around the walls.
  • Energy panel — W/m², W/m²·100 lx, lm/W, kWh/year and running cost.
  • 3D view, emergency-lighting check (EN 1838), daylight, furniture shadows, and road / outdoor (EN 13201).
  • Exports — a clean customer PDF report, parts & lux-grid CSV, plan DXF, CAD DXF, 3D OBJ and BIM IFC.

You can calculate with our HiluX fixtures, or add your own luminaire by specs or by uploading an IES/LDT file. Multiple fixture types can share one room.

Real calculations, professional results

Light Planner runs genuine point-by-point, radiosity-based calculations to EN 12464-1 — real photometry, not rules of thumb. Set up a room and you get a confident, standards-checked layout in seconds, with a clean PDF report you can hand straight to a client or contractor. It’s the speed of a browser tool with the substance of a desktop calculator.

There’s a full manual built in

Click 📖 Manual inside the tool for a complete, plain-language user guide — every input explained, the standards it uses, worked examples and how to read the results. No sign-up, no PDF to hunt down.

Free — and we’d love your feedback

We built Light Planner because good lighting decisions should be easy to reach. It costs nothing to use, and it keeps getting better — a lot of what’s already in it came from real feedback.
