What Is Color Temperature?
Color temperature, measured in Kelvin (K), describes the appearance of light from warm yellowish tones to cool bluish-white. It is one of the most important specifications when selecting LED lighting for any project. This guide uses real specifications from the HiluX product range.
The Kelvin Scale
1800K – 2200K
Ultra Warm / Candlelight
Intimate, relaxing glow for bedrooms and accent lighting. The HiluX R10 Gen4 (5W, Ra95) features DimTone that shifts from 3000K down to 1800K as you dim.
2700K
Warm White
The standard for Scandinavian homes. The HiluX D1 Gen3 2700K (2.8W, Ra97, 250lm) and D7 Gen2 2700K (6W, Ra95, 420lm) are the most popular variants.
3000K
Warm White (brighter)
Ideal for kitchens and bathrooms. The HiluX D1 Gen3 3000K (2.8W, Ra97, 250lm) and D8 Tilt360 3000K (8W, Ra97, 640lm) are recommended.
2200K – 6000K
Tunable White
Full range in one fixture. The HiluX DS8 with Shelly WiFi adjusts from warm evening glow to bright daylight via app or voice control.
CRI: The Other Half of Light Quality
Color temperature describes the color of the light itself. CRI (Color Rendering Index) describes how well that light reveals the true colors of objects. A high CRI (Ra90+) means reds look truly red, skin tones appear natural, and food looks appetizing.
Room-by-Room Recommendations
Can You Mix Color Temperatures?
Mixing different Kelvin values within the same room is generally not recommended. However, mixing between adjacent rooms works well. Example: 2700K in the living area and 3000K in the kitchen of an open-plan space works well since both are warm white tones. A bigger contrast (e.g. 2700K living room to 4000K home office) should be separated by a hallway or transition space.
Where to Buy
The HiluX models in the table above are sold in Denmark through LEDpærer.dk. For dim-to-warm bulbs see their dimmable GU10 spots, and for the 3000K bathroom scenario their IP44 spotlights for bathrooms.
